Ivan Henriques – Researching with Flavobacteria (Eng)

In this research, Ivan Henriques – teaming up with a group of researchers – promotes a notion of collaboration with living organisms, to enhance the fusion of technology and organic systems. They propose to establish this collaboration by capitalizing on artistic practice, not only for discovering unforeseen design potentials of these organisms but also conveying them to society. They offer a methodology which combines diverse technical and creative methods taking artists and scientists (and bacteria!) as equal and active partners.

Ivan Henriques is a transdisciplinary artist and researcher working in multimedia installations examining living systems. He explores in his works hybrids of nature and (technological) culture creating new forms of communication between humans and other living organisms. He considers nature as inspiration and a necessary factor in the development of the technological world.

Ivan developed the interdisciplinary group Hybrid Forms and is the director of the mobile residency program EME (Estúdio Móvel Experimental, since 2008). His works are exhibited internationally, participating in festivals, residencies and talks.

Ivan is researcher at the research group Biobased Art and Design from Caradt.
